On November 30, 2024, former Nigerian Senate President Dr. Joseph Wayas will be buried after spending three years in a UK mortuary.
At a news conference in Calabar, Dr. Dorn-Cklaimz Enamhe, the secretary of the Central Planning Committee for Wayas’ funeral, affirmed the plans.
Wayas, the former Senate President from 1979 to 1983, died on November 30, 2021, at the age of 80 in a hospital in London, but his funeral was postponed because of family conflicts.
With the help of Bassey Otu, the governor of Cross River State, and other supporters, his remains was eventually returned to Nigeria in July 2024.
Governor Otu stated that he is committed to making sure that any notable Cross River locals who die overseas are returned home to be buried.
The funeral will start. included a ceremony at Calabar’s UJ Esuene Stadium before to Dr. Wayas’s funeral in Bassang, Obanliku Local Government Area, his hometown.
Dignitaries, including as Godswill Akpabio, the current Senate President, and other public and political leaders are anticipated to attend the service.
