The 2025 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has officially unveiled its highly anticipated nomination list, and Nigerian music heavyweights are once again taking the spotlight. Stars like Burna Boy, Davido, Shallipopi, Rema, and Ayra Starr have dominated the lineup, showcasing the undeniable global influence of Afrobeats and African music as a whole.

According to the nomination release, both Davido and Burna Boy scored an impressive five nominations each, positioning them among the most recognized artistes in the forthcoming awards.

Burna Boy and Davido Set the Pace

Burna Boy’s track “No Sign of Weakness” and Davido’s chart-topping album “5ive” earned prestigious spots in the Album of the Year category. Beyond this, the duo secured additional nominations for Song of the Year and Best Collaboration, solidifying their dominance across multiple award slots.

DJ Maphorisa, El Grande Toto, and Other Contenders

Representing South Africa, DJ Maphorisa matched the Nigerian giants with five nominations of his own, including Album of the Year and Best African DJ.

From Morocco, rapper El Grande Toto also bagged five nominations, thanks to the massive success of his tracks “Salgoat” and “Diplomatico.”

Shallipopi and Rising Street-Pop Influence

Nigeria’s fast-rising street-pop sensation, Shallipopi, received four nominations, including Song of the Year and Artiste of the Year. His breakthrough highlights the growing recognition of street-pop as a global force in the Afrobeats scene.

East Africa’s Strong Representation

Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz once again asserted his dominance in East Africa with four nominations. Similarly, South African singer Tyla bagged four nominations, while Tanzanian artist Juma Jux earned three nominations, including a Song of the Year nod for his viral hit “Ololufe Mi.”

Nigerian singers Rema and Ayra Starr were not left out, each securing three nominations and further strengthening Nigeria’s stronghold on the African music stage.
