Nantes defender Chidozie Awaziem has pinpointed Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz as the player Nigeria must keep a close eye on during their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final against hosts Morocco on Wednesday.
Speaking to journalists ahead of the semi-final, Awaziem praised Diaz’s skill set, describing him as a major threat who requires careful marking throughout the match.
“We know Brahim Diaz is a dangerous player. We need to watch him carefully,” Awaziem said.
“We’ll do everything to prevent him from playing in his preferred style because we know the level of danger he poses.”
Despite acknowledging the Moroccan forward’s talents, Awaziem expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to contain him. He reminded fans that the Nigerian squad had already faced and successfully neutralized some of the tournament’s top players.
“We have already faced some really big players and managed to stop them. Every player on the team understands their role and what is expected on the pitch,” he added.
A win against Morocco would secure Nigeria a place in the AFCON final, where they will face the winner of the other semi-final clash between Senegal and Egypt. The match promises to be a thrilling encounter, as the Super Eagles aim to continue their impressive run in the tournament.
