Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen has heaped glowing praise on his teammate Paul Onuachu following Nigeria’s 3-1 victory over Uganda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage clash on Tuesday.
The match marked a memorable moment for Onuachu, who scored his first-ever goal in the AFCON tournament, eliciting loud cheers from both fans and teammates. Osimhen, speaking to journalists in the mixed zone after the game, described his teammate as “family.” He said, “Paul Onuachu is family to me. I’ve known Paul for many years, and it’s wonderful to see him score his first goal and contribute so well to the team’s performance.”
Osimhen, who captained the Super Eagles during the match, also highlighted the collective mindset of the squad, emphasizing that the focus remains on representing the nation rather than individual clubs. He stated, “Honestly, we don’t talk about clubs because this is a national team mission. Our energy and attention are entirely on Nigeria and our performances here at AFCON.”
Looking ahead, the Nigerian captain shared that the team is already gearing up for their round of 16 fixture. “Right now, everyone’s focus is on the team we will face in the knockout stage. We concentrate solely on the Super Eagles and the next game,” he added.
