Former African football icon and two-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner, Mohamed Aboutrika, has described the Super Eagles of Nigeria as the most dominant side in the ongoing 2025 AFCON tournament.

Aboutrika made this assessment after Nigeria’s convincing 2–0 victory over Algeria in their quarterfinal clash played on Saturday, a result that confirmed Nigeria’s place among the tournament’s elite contenders.

The Super Eagles delivered a composed and confident performance, controlling key areas of the pitch and effectively neutralizing the Algerian team. Goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams sealed the win, highlighting Nigeria’s attacking efficiency and tactical discipline.

Speaking during post-match analysis on beIN Sports, Aboutrika praised Nigeria’s overall structure, balance, and physical presence, emphasizing that the team currently shows no obvious weakness.

“The strongest team is always the one that wins, and Nigeria truly has no clear weaknesses,” Aboutrika stated.

He further explained that the Super Eagles demonstrated both technical quality and physical dominance, excelling in individual duels, aerial contests, and structured team play. According to him, Nigeria combined creativity with power, making them extremely difficult to contain.

Aboutrika noted that the Super Eagles possess players capable of creating goal opportunities, as well as attackers who consistently convert chances, an advantage that separates strong teams from average ones in high-pressure tournaments.

The former Egyptian international also singled out four Nigerian players for exceptional performances during the match. Victor Osimhen was commended for his attacking presence and movement, while Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi were praised for their control and composure in midfield. Akor Adams received recognition for his strength and effectiveness on the right wing.

“Osimhen was outstanding in attack, Iwobi and Ndidi controlled the midfield, Akor was powerful on the right, and the defense remained solid. Nigeria played very close to a perfect game,” Aboutrika added.

He concluded that Nigeria’s victory was fully deserved, stressing that the Super Eagles were more organized, stronger, and more effective throughout the match.

With this win, Nigeria now turns attention to a highly anticipated semi-final clash against host nation Morocco, scheduled for Wednesday, January 14, a fixture expected to test the Super Eagles’ title ambitions.
