Ademola Lookman, the renowned Nigerian footballer, officially presented his CAF Player of the Year trophy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the president’s recent visit to Lagos.
The special presentation took place at the Lagos State Government House on Friday, where Lookman was warmly welcomed by both Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and President Tinubu.
President Tinubu’s visit to Lagos spanned two days, and this symbolic moment formed part of the engagements during his stay in the state.
Lookman, who was honoured as Africa’s Best Footballer at a grand ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco in December, continues to enjoy widespread recognition for his outstanding achievements on and off the pitch.
The 27-year-old forward took over the award from fellow Nigerian star Victor Osimhen, who clinched the prestigious title in 2023.
His award is largely credited to his brilliant performance with the Super Eagles during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire, where he found the net three times and delivered one assist across seven competitive fixtures.
Moreover, Lookman’s impact at the club level was just as significant. He was instrumental in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League triumph, most notably by scoring a memorable hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.
This historic feat not only cemented his legacy as one of Nigeria’s most successful footballers in recent times but also strengthened his reputation across the global football scene.
