Adeleke Threatens Sanctions Against Radio Stations Violating Broadcasting Code in Osun State

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has declared that any radio station operating in the state and found violating the national broadcasting code will face serious penalties.

He emphasized that individuals responsible for inciting unrest or promoting violence within the state will be apprehended and prosecuted by the appropriate law enforcement agencies.

The warning was made public through a press statement issued in Osogbo on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

The statement explained that the action was prompted by rising concerns regarding inciting remarks and continual disregard for broadcast regulations by certain radio stations.

In Rasheed’s words, “Some stations have given airtime to guests who make provocative remarks capable of inciting public disorder. These same stations also deny fair hearing to those affected, thereby breaching professional and ethical broadcasting practices.”

He further described these actions as not only unethical but also as serious threats to the peace and stability of Osun State.

In response, Governor Adeleke has instructed the Commissioner for Information to immediately summon the General Managers of the offending radio stations.

“This meeting will serve as a preliminary step before more severe actions are implemented if such infractions continue. While freedom of the press is a constitutional right, it must be exercised with a strong sense of responsibility and adherence to ethical standards,” the statement read.

The governor also issued a stern warning to opposition political figures, urging them not to stir violence in reaction to the recent Appeal Court ruling.

He accused them of making inflammatory public remarks intended to undermine law and order, stressing that such behavior will not be tolerated.

“Anyone caught inciting unrest will be dealt with decisively by law enforcement agencies,” Adeleke reiterated.

In another development, the Osun State Police Command has confirmed the deployment of officers across local government secretariats throughout the state.

According to LMSINT MEDIA investigations, this security arrangement was initiated to prevent any form of violence or chaos following the Appeal Court ruling from the Akure Division on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

Further reports revealed that tensions are escalating in Osun as both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government executives claim authority over council areas in the aftermath of the appellate court’s verdict.

Confirming the security deployment, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, stated, “Our duty is to maintain law and order, not to get involved in political matters. We’ve put all necessary security measures in place. We encourage Osun residents to go about their lawful activities without fear.”
