ADC Slams Tinubu Over Europe Trip Amid Nigeria’s Rising Insecurity

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following his recent trip to Europe, describing the action as deeply insensitive in light of Nigeria’s worsening security situation.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, expressed the party’s concerns in a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday. The statement, titled “PBAT’s Lack of Care Scary,” questioned the timing and implications of the President’s decision to travel abroad while the nation grapples with renewed violence and fear.

According to Abdullahi, the President’s departure occurred at a moment when Nigerians were still processing disturbing developments across the country. He pointed to a deadly bomb explosion in Zamfara State that reportedly claimed lives, as well as rising tension triggered by reports of a United States military operation carried out on Nigerian territory.

The ADC spokesperson stressed that these incidents have heightened public anxiety, leaving citizens anxious for reassurance and clarity from the nation’s leader. Instead of addressing the growing unease, Abdullahi said Nigerians were surprised to learn that the President had left the country.

He noted that the absence of any official statement from the Presidency regarding the security challenges further worsened public concern. Many Nigerians, he said, were expecting direct communication to calm nerves and demonstrate leadership at a critical moment.

In his remarks, Abdullahi questioned the President’s silence, stating that the lack of response to such serious matters gives the impression of detachment from the struggles facing ordinary citizens. He argued that leadership demands presence, especially during periods of national uncertainty and fear.

The ADC maintained that when a country is confronted with violent attacks and foreign military involvement, citizens naturally look to their President for direction, reassurance, and decisive action. Abdullahi warned that failing to address these issues promptly could erode public confidence in governance.

He concluded that the combination of silence and physical absence raises troubling questions about the administration’s responsiveness to national emergencies, particularly when the population is looking for stability and assurance during a time of distress.
