Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved a monthly stipend increase for traditional rulers, with payments now ranging from N250,000 to N350,000.
This update was revealed by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, during a press briefing held after the State Executive Council meeting in Umuahia on Monday.
Key Highlights of the Announcement:
- Additional Allowances for Traditional Rulers:
Members of the Traditional Rulers Council, both at the state and local government levels, will now receive an extra N100,000 monthly allowance. - Cultural Heritage Promotion:
Commissioner Kanu emphasized the administration’s commitment to empowering traditional rulers as custodians of the state’s cultural identity. - Revised 30-Year Development Plan:
The state government has pledged to rebase its 30-year development plan to align with current economic conditions. An economic team will be inaugurated soon to oversee this task. - Enforcement of Traffic and Street Trading Policies:
- The State Harmonized Taskforce has been reorganized to enforce compliance with traffic and street trading regulations.
- This move follows concerns over the negative impacts of street trading and driving against traffic in the state.
- Education Policy Implementation:
- Abia State has begun enforcing its out-of-school children policy by reopening schools after the Yuletide holidays.
- A special task force has been created to ensure children remain in school, aiming to eradicate the issue of out-of-school children.
Governor Otti’s administration continues to roll out initiatives designed to promote economic growth, cultural preservation, and sustainable development in the state.
