Abia Police Disband Anti-Cultism Unit Over Misconduct

The Abia State Police Commissioner has disbanded the Anti-Cultism Unit over unprofessional conduct and demoted Officer Ebuka Okonkwo for public incivility.

The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, has officially disbanded the Anti-Cultism Unit of the command due to cases of unprofessional behavior and mistreatment of the public.

According to a press release issued by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka, this decision aligns with the Inspector General of Police’s mission to build a professional, service-oriented, law-compliant, and citizen-friendly police force.

The statement further revealed the demotion of Officer Ebuka Okonkwo (F/No: 527324) from the rank of Corporal to Constable. Okonkwo, who was attached to the Aba Area Command but deployed on special duty at Isuochi, was penalized following a completed administrative investigation. The investigation found him guilty of misconduct, unprofessionalism, and public incivility.

Commissioner Isa reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct among officers, emphasizing that such behavior could harm the force’s reputation.
