Abia CP Urges Officers to Avoid Rushed Court Charges Without Proper Investigation

1 minute, 55 seconds Read

The Commissioner of Police for Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, has cautioned officers within the command against sending cases to court prematurely without comprehensive investigation. He emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity of the justice system and the rule of law.

During the National Police Day celebration held at the Police Officers’ Mess, Umuahia, on Thursday, CP Isa addressed top-ranking officers, including Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Heads of Departments (HODs), and Tactical Unit leaders. He urged them to exercise due diligence in all operations, especially during stop-and-search duties.

Emphasis on Professional Conduct and Human Rights

Highlighting the need for professionalism, CP Isa stressed that officers must operate within the confines of the law and demonstrate respect for human rights during all engagements with the public. He warned against the unlawful detention of suspects, abuse of power, and any action that could compromise the public’s trust in the police force.

“Every officer must ensure cases are thoroughly investigated before they are taken to court. This is a critical step towards delivering justice and enhancing our public image,” the CP stated.

Promoting Stakeholder Engagement and Curbing Mob Justice

As part of his strategic vision for a modern and internationally compliant Nigeria Police Force, CP Isa encouraged routine engagement with community stakeholders. He stressed the need to sensitize the public about the dangers of mob actions and to promote lawful avenues for justice.

Honoring Distinguished Service

In the spirit of the celebration, the Commissioner recognized and honored two recently retired officers — ACP Uduak Isaac and ACP Afokwalam Gabriel Nneji — for their exceptional and dedicated service to the country. Their legacy, according to the CP, serves as a benchmark for younger officers.

Why Thorough Investigation Matters

Charging a suspect to court without adequate investigation could lead to wrongful convictions, violations of rights, and a backlog of unsubstantiated cases in the judicial system. It’s crucial that law enforcement personnel adopt a meticulous approach to crime handling, ensuring justice for all parties involved.
