Akwa Ibom Governor Calls for Continued Trust in God Over Oil Wells Dispute
Amid rising concerns over Cross River State’s renewed attempt to reclaim the 76 oil wells ceded to Akwa Ibom in 2012, Governor Umo Eno has called on citizens to remain prayerful and trust in God’s intervention.
Speaking at the Government House Monthly Prayer Service in March, Governor Eno reassured Akwa Ibom residents that the Supreme Court had ruled twice in favor of the state. However, he stressed the importance of continuous prayers for the matter.
“Regarding the oil wells, let’s keep praying to God. Let’s keep trusting Him. Also, let’s pray for our President, that God will grant him the wisdom to make the right decisions,” Governor Eno urged.
He further expressed confidence in divine intervention, affirming that God has never lost a battle and will not begin with Akwa Ibom.
Supreme Court Ruling on the 76 Oil Wells
The Supreme Court, in its landmark 2012 judgment, ruled that Cross River State forfeited its status as a littoral state following the 2008 cession of the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon. As a result, the state became ineligible to claim offshore oil wells, affirming Akwa Ibom’s rightful ownership.
Respect for Leadership and Unity Among Citizens
Governor Eno also called for respect towards leaders and urged citizens to refrain from engaging in political matters they do not fully comprehend. He warned that unnecessary controversies could harm individuals and the state’s progress.
“Let’s respect our leaders and avoid actions that could divide us. We must honor those God has chosen to lead us and support them,” he advised.

During the service, Pastor Dr. Bolaji AdeIsrael of Beautiful Gate Family Church, Eket, delivered a sermon titled “The Battle Belongs to the Lord.” He emphasized that life is filled with challenges and encouraged believers to stand firm on God’s promises, reminding them that perseverance in faith leads to victory.
