40 Years of Leadership: Oba Momoh Marks Ikare’s Journey from Township to City
The Olukare of Ikare, His Royal Majesty Oba Akadiri Saliu Momoh IV, recently celebrated his 40th anniversary on the throne, reflecting on the transformation of Ikare-Akoko from a township to a bustling city under his reign.
The week-long celebration brought together sons and daughters of Ikare-Akoko, alongside dignitaries from across Nigeria, at the Lenon Jubilee High School. The event was marked by cultural displays, entertainment, and an atmosphere of unity.
A Legacy of Growth and Unity
In his address, Oba Momoh expressed gratitude to the High Chiefs who played a vital role in his ascension. He said:
“The event we are witnessing today was made possible by the resoluteness of our revered High Chiefs, who elected me out of many qualified princes. Though many of them are no longer with us, may Allah grant them Aljana Fidaus.”
The monarch emphasized that Ikare’s transformation into a city was achieved through peace and unity, urging his people to continue fostering harmony.
“We must shun acts capable of causing avoidable mayhem. I pledge to continue serving with wisdom, compassion, and strength, ensuring our Kingdom flourishes under Almighty Allah’s guidance.”
Celebrating Four Decades of Commitment
Representing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, praised the monarch for his dedication.
“Two scores in leadership is no small feat. As one of the longest-serving traditional rulers in the state, Oba Momoh has enriched the traditional institution with his wisdom and experience.”
Senator Jide Ipinsagba also acknowledged the monarch’s impact, stating:
“Ikare has witnessed significant development across all sectors under Oba Momoh’s leadership. I urge everyone to continue supporting him for the progress of our beloved community.”
A Legacy Documented
A highlight of the celebration was the launch of a book titled The Crowned Legacy: Glorious Reign of HRM Oba (Alh.) Akadiri Saliu Momoh IV, the Olukare of Ikare. Reviewed by Prof. Busuyi Mekusi of Adekunle Ajasin University, the book chronicles the monarch’s achievements and contributions to the community.
The event, described by Elder Alex Akande, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, as a milestone worth celebrating, symbolized peace, progress, and blessings for both the monarch and the people of Ikare.
United for a Prosperous Future
The 40th anniversary celebration of Oba Momoh’s reign was not only a reflection of his leadership but also a rallying call for Ikare’s citizens to remain united in fostering the city’s progress.
