Normal Traffic Restored on Abuja–Lokoja Expressway After Weekend Disruption – Umahi

Normal vehicular movement has now resumed on the Abuja–Lokoja Expressway after a temporary disruption that caused heavy congestion over the weekend. The confirmation was given by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who assured road users that the situation had been brought under control.

According to an official statement released on Sunday by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Ministry of Works, Mohammed A. Ahmed, the blockage occurred following a disagreement involving truck drivers and military officers stationed along the route.

The disagreement reportedly escalated after the windscreen of a truck was damaged during the confrontation. In reaction to the incident, affected truck drivers obstructed a portion of the highway, preventing the free movement of vehicles. This action immediately resulted in a long stretch of traffic congestion, leaving commuters and transport operators stranded for hours.

The Abuja–Lokoja Highway is a major transport corridor that links the Federal Capital Territory to several parts of the country, making any disruption along the route highly impactful. The blockage significantly slowed down economic and commercial activities, especially for motorists conveying goods and passengers across states.

Minister Umahi, while addressing the situation, confirmed that appropriate steps had been taken to resolve the standoff and restore order along the expressway. He emphasized that traffic flow has now returned to normal, allowing motorists to move freely once again.

The Ministry of Works reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining smooth traffic operations on federal highways and preventing a recurrence of such incidents. Road users have also been advised to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to ensure safety and uninterrupted movement on major roads.
