Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, has finally addressed the reasons behind his decision to end his marriage with Annie Idibia. After more than a decade together as husband and wife, the celebrated musician revealed that they both did all they could to save their union before mutually agreeing to go their separate ways.

During an insightful session on the 234 Mzansi Podcast, hosted by Nedu, 2Face shared emotional reflections about their journey. He made it clear that while he and Annie tried everything possible to salvage their relationship, it simply did not work out in the end. The celebrated artiste chose not to disclose specific details about what led to their separation, out of respect for their private understanding.

2Face described Annie as an exceptional woman and stressed the importance of not remaining in an unhappy relationship just to satisfy societal expectations. He noted that no one should endure emotional suffering simply to keep up appearances or to please others.

In his words, 2Face explained:

“I believe both of us truly gave it our best. I won’t discuss the reasons publicly because that’s between me and Annie. She is wonderful, but things just stopped working. The spark we once shared faded, and I feel no need to talk about it openly.
It’s always good to attempt to fix your marriage, but when things go beyond repair, no one should force anything. Only the people in the relationship truly know what they’re feeling. You shouldn’t let the world dictate your happiness because many people live in emotional bondage. I don’t think anyone should suffer just to satisfy society. When it’s clear that reconciliation isn’t possible, no one should be pressured to stay together.”

The African Queen crooner’s revelation triggered mixed reactions on social media. While some fans praised him for being honest and respectful, others criticized him, accusing him of talking too much or being unfaithful during the marriage.

Mixed Reactions from Social Media Users

Here are a few of the responses shared by netizens:

  • @divine_neny: “He can’t even point to what she did wrong. Annie loved him deeply.”
  • @t_e_s_s_y123: “So she’s amazing now? At least you’re telling the truth. Annie’s mistake was loving him more than herself. Women should take a lesson from this.”
  • @rejioce.johnson.12: “Stay with your new wife. Even if Annie was at fault, we’re glad she’s out of it. She deserves genuine love.”
  • @belleglamchic: “Why is he hopping from one interview to another?”
  • @agentvic_: “If you don’t like what he said, you could have taken the mic yourself. People would have still criticized him if he’d spoken negatively about Annie. Let people make their choices.”
  • @favsgold_declutter: “May we not love someone who leaves us halfway through life, Amen.”

It’s worth noting that 2Face is now reportedly in a relationship with Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru, following his earlier announcement about his divorce this year. His comments about men and monogamy also continue to generate heated debates online.
