A 27-year-old man identified as Musa Lamidi has been remanded in a correctional center following accusations of murdering his father, Rufai Lamidi, in Eruwa, Oyo State.
The Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan issued the remand order on Wednesday. The accused, who reportedly has no fixed residential address, is facing a murder charge.
Presiding Magistrate Olaolu Olanipekun declined to entertain Lamidi’s plea, citing the court’s lack of jurisdiction over the matter. He instructed that the police transfer the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for further legal review and advice.
The matter was subsequently adjourned until July 10 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecuting Officer, ASP Musbau Lawal, informed the court that the incident occurred at around 11 p.m. on May 11 in Eruwa. He alleged that Lamidi struck his father on the forehead with a stick, an action that allegedly led to the elder Lamidi’s death.
The prosecutor noted that the crime violates Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law of Oyo State (2000), which pertains to homicide.
