In a strong reaffirmation of the Nigerian government’s industrial growth strategy, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized that consistent and affordable electricity supply is fundamental to achieving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s industrialisation agenda.
Speaking during the 6th Ministerial Briefing held in Abuja, the minister laid out the government’s stance on prioritizing the power sector as a catalyst for national economic development.
The Role of Electricity in Nigeria’s Industrialisation Drive
According to Minister Idris, uninterrupted 24-hour electricity supply is not just desirable but essential if Nigeria is to succeed in its goal of becoming a fully industrialised economy.
He stated:
“There can be no industrialisation without accessible and affordable electricity. Power is at the heart of everything the Tinubu administration plans to accomplish in the manufacturing and technology sectors.”
This statement aligns with the government’s broader objective of economic diversification and reducing dependence on crude oil by supporting sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and technology.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, also contributed to the briefing with a significant update: Nigeria recently achieved its highest-ever electricity distribution level at 5,801 megawatts.
This milestone reflects ongoing improvements in the country’s energy infrastructure, even though challenges remain.
