2027 Presidency: Tinubu Unshaken By Datti’s Claims

The Nigerian Presidency has firmly responded to comments made by Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), asserting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains a formidable political figure ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a rebuttal issued by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the presidency rejected Datti’s recent assertion that Tinubu will not seek re-election. Datti, during a media appearance, declared that Tinubu’s tenure was nearing its end, and that both the President and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were destined to lose in the next electoral cycle.

However, Dare labeled Datti’s remarks as unfounded and likened them to unreliable predictions made by so-called prophets at the start of each year. According to him, such declarations lack factual grounding and political substance.

“Listening to Datti Baba-Ahmed’s commentary on Nigeria’s political trajectory is similar to hearing baseless prophecies from self-proclaimed seers,” Dare stated in an official release. “Had it been up to such speculation, both Peter Obi and Datti would already be at the helm of affairs.”

He went further to describe Datti’s theories as lacking depth and relevance, criticizing him for venturing into an arena where he lacks experience. Dare emphasized that any assumptions about Tinubu’s political demise ignore the President’s performance and political clout.

The presidency also distanced itself from the 2027 APC campaign materials circulating on billboards, clarifying that neither Tinubu nor Vice President Kashim Shettima has announced any formal campaign intentions.

“When the time is right, President Tinubu will address the matter of a second term. Until then, assumptions remain speculative,” the statement concluded.
