2027: Oyo Residents Will Decide My Successor – Governor Seyi Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed that the power to determine who will succeed him in 2027 lies entirely with the people of the state. He emphasized that the citizens, not any political cabal or group of elites, will decide who takes over the leadership mantle once his current tenure expires.

Governor Makinde made this statement while addressing stakeholders and party members during a public engagement in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. He highlighted that leadership in a democratic system is about the collective will of the people, stressing that his administration’s achievements will serve as a foundation for whoever emerges as the next governor.

According to Makinde, his focus remains on fulfilling the promises made under the Oyo State Roadmap for Accelerated Development, ensuring that the state continues to enjoy steady growth in areas such as education, health, infrastructure, and security. He urged residents to remain politically aware and participate actively in the democratic process, noting that their votes would shape the future of the state beyond 2027.

He said, “I am not the one to choose who will succeed me. The people of Oyo State will decide that through their votes. My duty is to keep serving them faithfully and leave a legacy that inspires progress.”
