On Tuesday, the opposition coalition took a decisive step by officially endorsing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political vehicle in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This strategic adoption is widely viewed as a calculated move to challenge and potentially dislodge the current ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), from power.
As part of the coalition’s plans to structure itself ahead of the upcoming electoral season, it also revealed several key interim leaders who will drive the new party’s agenda.
In a significant announcement, former Senate President David Mark has been named the national chairman of the party. In addition, Rauf Aregbesola, who recently completed his tenure as Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, has been appointed as the national secretary. Bolaji Abdullahi, a former Minister of Sports, will take up the position of the party’s official spokesperson.

However, when it became evident that the registration of ADA might face major hurdles and delays at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the group decided to return to the negotiating table with the ADC to revive the earlier alliance.
According to insiders, the formal unveiling of this renewed coalition partnership with the ADC has been scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, with key party members and the media expected to attend and witness the event. This unveiling is considered crucial as it sets the tone for what many observers predict will be an intense political season leading up to the 2027 elections.
The coalition leaders have expressed confidence that with the ADC as a unified platform, they can build the momentum needed to present a credible and formidable challenge against the APC. Political analysts believe this realignment could significantly reshape the opposition’s chances if they manage to maintain unity and a shared vision
