Adewale Adebayo, former presidential aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has revealed that top political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party leader Peter Obi are currently engaged in discussions to align with the SDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Adebayo stated that official representatives of both Atiku and Obi are in active talks with SDP executives regarding a possible political migration.

“People are aligning with the SDP, and we are receiving them warmly,” Adebayo remarked. “While some of them are adjusting to our political culture, particularly those not used to structured and rules-based politics, we are focused on uniting progressive forces.”

He further explained that while some individuals come from political backgrounds characterized by unregulated practices and informal tactics, the SDP remains committed to instilling disciplined political processes.

According to Adebayo, “Names like Nasir El-Rufai, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi have come up in our internal conversations. Although no formal declaration has been made yet, our Financial Secretary confirmed ongoing talks.”

The SDP leader expressed optimism that if these leaders fully embrace the party’s ideologies, they can form a formidable coalition capable of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and retiring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from active politics.

“With a united front and adherence to our party’s democratic values, we can present Nigerians with a compelling alternative. Our vision is to not only challenge but retire President Tinubu to Lagos or any location he prefers in Nigeria,” Adebayo added.

This revelation marks a significant turning point in Nigeria’s political landscape, potentially reshaping alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
