2025 National Sports Festival: Governor Alia Receives Torch of Unity in Benue
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has officially received the prestigious Torch of Unity for the upcoming 2025 National Sports Festival from the National Sports Commission delegation. The much-anticipated sports event is scheduled to take place in Ogun State from May 16 to May 30, 2025.
Governor Alia’s Commitment to Sports Development
In his commitment to advancing sports in Benue, Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s full support for the state’s athletes, ensuring they excel and bring home medals. Representing the governor during the ceremony, Deputy Governor Barr. Sam Ode emphasized that the event signifies national unity, fostering a strong bond among sports enthusiasts across Nigeria.
Benue’s Sports Investment and Infrastructure Growth
Deputy Governor Ode highlighted Governor Alia’s unwavering dedication to sports development, which has significantly driven infrastructural improvements in the sector. He stated that sports is more than recreation; it is an industry that holds immense economic potential. He encouraged investors to explore opportunities in Benue’s growing sports sector.
“No previous governor has invested in sports development as much as Governor Alia. His administration has allocated substantial resources, particularly to football, and we are set to expand into other sports like volleyball, handball, and table tennis to harness fresh talent,” Ode emphasized.
McCarthy Stadium Renovation and Lobi Stars’ Endurance
He further assured that McCarthy Stadium in Makurdi will soon be fully operational, allowing Lobi Stars FC to play their home matches without disruptions. Commending the club’s management and players, he acknowledged their resilience in competing under challenging conditions while their home stadium undergoes renovations.
