The lineup of nominees for the 2025 BET Awards has officially been unveiled, as announced by the event organizers on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Representing Nigeria’s dynamic Afrobeats scene, five of its top artists—Burna Boy, Tems, Rema, Ayra Starr, and Shallipopi—secured nominations across various categories.
Ayra Starr emerged as the most recognized Nigerian artist, securing three nominations in the following categories: Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best New Artist, and Best International Act. Her global appeal continues to expand as she garners recognition for her versatility and talent.
Tems, known for her powerful voice and lyrical depth, earned two nominations in the BET Her category for her inspirational songs, Burning and Hold On. Her impactful storytelling and emotionally rich vocals continue to resonate with audiences worldwide.
Meanwhile, Rema, Shallipopi, and Burna Boy received one nomination each. Burna Boy is up for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, Rema was recognized in the Best International Act category, and Shallipopi earned a nod for Best New International Act, further underscoring the influence of Afrobeats on the global stage.
At the forefront of the overall nominations is American rapper Kendrick Lamar, who leads with 10 nominations, showcasing his dominance in the industry. He is followed closely by Drake, Future, Doechii, and GloRilla, who each garnered six nominations.
The winners of the 2025 BET Awards will be announced during a live broadcast from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on June 9, airing on the BET network.
