2 Killed as Vigilante Thwarts Bandits’ Attack on Kogi School

In a courageous display of community defense, a local vigilante group in Aiyetoro Kiri, located within Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, successfully foiled a planned bandits’ attack on Kiri High School yesterday. The timely intervention of the vigilantes prevented a potentially tragic abduction of students, ensuring the safety of those present at the school.

The incident is particularly alarming as it follows a series of school abductions in Nigeria, highlighting the growing threats to students’ safety across the country. Only days earlier, armed bandits abducted 25 schoolgirls from Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga in Kebbi State, who have since been released safely. Similarly, over 300 students from St Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State were abducted, creating national outrage and raising questions about the safety measures in educational institutions.

Eyewitnesses at Kiri High School reported that the bandits approached the school under the cover of darkness but were met with armed resistance from the vigilante group. The confrontation resulted in two fatalities among the attackers, effectively ending the immediate threat to the students.
