Nigeria’s U-17 women’s football team, popularly known as the Flamingos, delivered a powerful performance as they defeated Algeria 4-0 in the first leg of the final qualifying round for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The match took place on Saturday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.


First-Half Blitz from the Flamingos

The match kicked off with high intensity, and it didn’t take long for Nigeria to break the deadlock. Queens Joseph found the back of the net just three minutes into the game, giving the Flamingos an early advantage.

In the 13th minute, Zainab Oluwaseun doubled Nigeria’s lead with a composed finish following a well-executed team build-up.

Moments later, Queens Joseph struck again, securing her second goal of the match in the 16th minute, putting the Flamingos 3-0 up in just over a quarter of an hour.


Second-Half Wrap and Final Blow

Although Algeria attempted to regroup in the second half, their efforts were thwarted by Nigeria’s well-organized defense and midfield control.

As the match approached full time, substitute Aishat Animashaun sealed the victory with a stunning goal in the 90th minute, bringing the final score to 4-0.


What’s Next? Return Leg in Blida, Algeria

The second leg of the encounter is scheduled for Friday, April 25, 2025, and will be held at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida, Algeria. The Flamingos head into the match with a strong lead and high confidence.
