Cause of the ExplosionPreliminary investigations indicate that the explosion resulted from a fire that swept through shops and stalls in the bustling market. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire was sparked by a carelessly discarded cigarette butt, which ignited flammable materials, leading to the destructive blaze. Emergency Response and Ongoing SupportOut of the 50 injured victims, 46 were transferred to Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto. They are currently receiving specialized care in departments including orthopedics, surgery, the ICU burn unit, and ENT. NEMA has partnered with the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency and other local authorities to offer continued support to the victims and their families.
