Trump Announces Task Force Against Anti-Christian Bias

On February 6, 2025, during the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a new task force dedicated to addressing what he calls “anti-Christian bias” in government institutions. The initiative, part of his broader conservative agenda since his return to office, aims to eliminate religious discrimination across federal agencies.

The task force will be led by Attorney General Pam Bondi and will focus on halting all perceived anti-Christian targeting in the Department of Justice (DOJ), the FBI, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and other government institutions. Additionally, it will prosecute instances of anti-Christian violence and vandalism nationwide.

“We will protect Christians in our schools, military, government, workplaces, hospitals, and public squares,” Trump declared during his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast.

A White House Faith Office & Wider Government Purge

As part of his renewed commitment to religious values, Trump also announced the formation of a White House Faith Office, which will be led by his spiritual advisor, televangelist Paula White. This office is expected to serve as a key advisory body for faith-related policies in the administration.

These moves come alongside a broader shakeup of the federal government at the beginning of Trump’s second term. His administration has issued multiple executive orders supporting a conservative agenda, with policies targeting diversity programs and transgender rights.

Trump’s Relationship with Right-Wing Christians

Despite past legal controversies—including a criminal conviction related to hush money payments and allegations of sexual misconduct—Trump has positioned himself as a defender of Christian values. Many of his cabinet members have strong ties to Christian nationalism, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

Though not historically known for deep religious convictions, Trump claims that surviving an assassination attempt at a June 2024 election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has strengthened his faith.

“It changed something in me. I believed in God before, but now I feel it even more strongly,” Trump stated at a separate prayer breakfast at the U.S. Capitol.

During his January 20 inauguration speech, he reaffirmed this sentiment, saying that he had been “saved by God to Make America Great Again.”

The Task Force’s Potential Impact

The establishment of this task force is expected to spark debate over religious freedoms and government intervention in faith-related issues. While supporters see it as a necessary measure to protect Christian rights, critics may argue that it blurs the line between church and state.
