Bishop Jonas Katung, Founder and President of Living Stone Assembly, has called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritize appointing competent individuals to deliver on his campaign promises. In an interview with ONOJA AUDU, Bishop Katung discusses Tinubu’s administration, the role of the Middle Belt, and the importance of infrastructure development.

Bishop Katung dismissed allegations of tribalism and sectionalism against President Tinubu, urging Nigerians to unite in support of his administration. According to Katung, tribal or sectional agendas cannot succeed in a diverse country like Nigeria. Instead, the focus should be on appointing qualified individuals from across the nation to foster inclusivity.
Katung highlighted that President Tinubu’s administration began by removing underperforming officials, contrasting it with the previous administration. “The Buhari era saw retired individuals reappointed, leading to stagnation and financial mismanagement,” he said.
The bishop believes that Tinubu’s success lies in surrounding himself with capable hands while ensuring that all regions, especially the Middle Belt, are represented. “The Middle Belt has always been pivotal to Nigeria’s unity and progress. During the civil war, Middle Belters played a critical role, and their contributions today remain invaluable,” Katung emphasized.
Infrastructure Development: A Priority
Bishop Katung criticized the state of Nigeria’s infrastructure, particularly roads and railways. He highlighted the need for modern road designs with proper drainage systems and durable construction to improve transportation and economic activity.
“Roads linking the Middle Belt to other parts of the country, such as Abuja to Makurdi, must be prioritized. These routes are essential for moving goods and promoting national integration,” Katung said. He also advocated for the expansion of railway lines to connect regions, reducing the burden on road transportation.

Katung urged President Tinubu to leverage the Middle Belt’s unwavering support by appointing representatives from the region into strategic positions. He stressed that the Middle Belt holds the key to the President’s success and continuity beyond 2027.
“The Middle Belt is the stabilizing force of the nation, much like a belt holds trousers in place. Neglecting this region is at the country’s detriment,” Katung stated, reiterating the need for balance in national appointments.
