President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a decisive stand against the rising wave of violence and insecurity across Nigeria. During a high-level security briefing at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, he delivered a stern directive to the National Security Adviser (NSA) and all Service Chiefs, demanding urgent and effective action to end the ongoing killings in various regions of the country.
Speaking through his official spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu emphasized a complete transformation of the country’s security approach, stating unequivocally, “Enough is enough.”
The security meeting was attended by top brass from the armed forces, the Nigeria Police Force, and the national intelligence community. The NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, confirmed to reporters that the President had called for a detailed review and reworking of the current security strategy to reflect a more collaborative and localized approach.
Killings Across Nigerian States Spark Urgency
The President’s order follows renewed violence in several Nigerian states, including Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara. These attacks have left many communities devastated and have raised fresh concerns over the nation’s security framework.
Ribadu explained that despite being on official assignments in Paris and London, President Tinubu stayed actively engaged, issuing directives to his security team throughout his trip. On his return, the President convened this extended security briefing to gain firsthand insights and provide further guidance.
“It was an extensive meeting,” Ribadu said. “We briefed him on the latest updates. He was visibly concerned and demanded a more grassroots-driven solution. He wants increased collaboration with state governors, local government authorities, and community leaders.”
A People-Centered Security Model
In line with the President’s vision, the new security model will focus on improving coordination between federal agencies and local stakeholders. This includes empowering subnational units, which are often on the frontlines of conflict, to respond faster and more effectively to threats within their jurisdictions.
Ribadu reiterated that the administration is fully committed to restoring peace and ensuring that all Nigerians, regardless of their location, feel safe in their communities.
“Mr President made it clear: restoring peace is non-negotiable. We are acting swiftly and decisively,” Ribadu added.
