Months after the Nigerian Federal Government declared a state of emergency on food insecurity, tangible progress remains elusive. Food inflation is now at an alarming 40%, and as predicted by UNICEF and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), approximately 25 million Nigerians face severe food insecurity.

2. Promote Youth Engagement in Agriculture
Encourage younger generations to embrace agriculture through attractive policies, such as subsidies and incentives for agribusiness startups.
3. Provide Access to Modern Inputs
- Distribute affordable high-yield hybrid seeds that are early-maturing and disease-resistant.
- Supply cost-effective organic fertilizers.
4. Employ Extension Workers
Recruit young graduates in agricultural fields to serve as extension workers. Their role will include:
- Educating farmers on modern techniques like biotechnology and genetically modified crop production.
- Coordinating farmer associations to streamline access to government resources, such as fertilizers and equipment.
5. Invest in Infrastructure
- Access Roads: Improve rural road networks to reduce food wastage, which has risen from 25% to 40% in two decades.
- Electricity Supply: Stable power will enhance food storage, preservation, and processing, aligning with global standards.
6. Agricultural Subsidies
The government should subsidize farming inputs and practices, as seen in Malaysia’s successful support of rice farmers.
7. Attract Investors
Improved security, infrastructure, and policies will draw both local and international investors to Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
