Small Aircraft Crash Near Albany, New York Leaves One Dead

A tragic small aircraft crash occurred on Saturday afternoon in Copake, New York, roughly 50 miles south of the state capital, Albany. The aircraft, a Mitsubishi MU-2B, was carrying six individuals when it went down in a muddy field near the Massachusetts state border.

According to a press release by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the plane was en route to Columbia County Airport located near Hudson, New York. The crash occurred at approximately 12:15 PM local time (1615 GMT).

Crash Details and Location

The location of the crash, Copake, Columbia County, is characterized by rural terrain and muddy fields, which have made emergency response efforts more challenging. Emergency teams have been facing delays in accessing the crash site due to wet ground and snow, which has made the area less accessible.

“It’s in the middle of a field and it’s pretty muddy, so accessibility is difficult,”
– said Undersheriff Jacqueline Salvatore during a press conference.

Casualty Report

As of the time this report was published, one fatality has been confirmed. However, it remains unclear whether the other five passengers on board sustained injuries or if additional deaths occurred. Authorities have yet to release further details on the condition of the other occupants.
