Despite calls to reconsider, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has warned that shutting down telecom services could negatively impact the sector and the country’s economic stability. NSCDC Deploys Security Personnel to Base Stations To counter any disruptions, the NSCDC has strategically deployed personnel to telecommunications base stations nationwide. According to NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi, the deployment aims to prevent any unlawful activities that may arise during the demonstration. Afolabi reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that the agency will not allow any protest to compromise national security. Intelligence Reports Warn of Potential Violence Speaking on the matter, Afolabi revealed that intelligence reports indicate that the planned protest could be infiltrated by hoodlums, increasing the likelihood of violent disruptions. He further noted that while peaceful protests are legally recognized, past experiences necessitate caution. The NSCDC, therefore, urged the NLC to reconsider its actions to avoid exacerbating existing security concerns in the country.
