The Nigerian Air Force Chief completes a South-West tour, emphasizing innovation, personnel welfare, and infrastructural development to strengthen national security efforts.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) recently concluded a comprehensive four-day operational tour of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) units and formations across the South-West from December 12 to 15, 2024. This visit underscored his dedication to operational efficiency, personnel welfare, and infrastructural development.

Key Highlights of the Tour

Lagos Visit

The CAS inspected major units in Lagos, including the 055 NAF Camp Victoria Island, 631 Aircraft Maintenance Depot (ACMD), 643 Equipment Supply Depot (ESD) in Ikeja, and the 663 NAF Mother & Child Hospital in Badagry. During the visit, he evaluated ongoing infrastructural and technical upgrades while promoting sustainability through a symbolic tree-planting exercise at the 643 ESD.

A key milestone of the Lagos leg was the commissioning of the NAF Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA) Multipurpose Hall at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja. This state-of-the-art facility, spearheaded by NAFOWA National President Architect (Dr.) Rakiya Abubakar, aims to support welfare and family-oriented activities for officers and their families.

Ondo and Osun States Engagements

The CAS extended his tour to Ondo State, where he visited the newly established Air Force Comprehensive Secondary School in Igbara-Oke. From there, he proceeded to Osun State, stopping at the NAF Institute of Safety in Ipetu Ijesha and the Air Force Research and Development Institute (AFRDI) in Oshogbo. At AFRDI, he reviewed projects focused on advancing indigenous technology, reiterating the importance of innovation in enhancing Nigeria’s air defense capabilities.

Oyo State Inspection

The final leg of the tour took place in Ibadan, Oyo State, where the CAS assessed ongoing work at the permanent site of the NAF School of Finance and Accounting (NAFSFA). He emphasized the importance of adhering to international best practices to ensure the timely completion of projects, maximizing the value of resources invested.

Promoting Innovation and Collaboration

Throughout the tour, the CAS prioritized engagement with personnel through interactive Durbars (military town hall meetings). These sessions facilitated open communication, reinforced the CAS’s Command Philosophy, and gathered valuable feedback from NAF personnel.

Key themes of the tour included innovation, discipline, and teamwork. The CAS’s strategic leadership reinforced the NAF’s vision for an agile and resilient Air Force capable of addressing present and future security challenges.

Conclusion

The CAS’s South-West tour highlighted the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to operational readiness, welfare, and infrastructural development. By focusing on teamwork, sustainability, and indigenous innovation, the NAF is poised to enhance its capacity to safeguard national security effectively.
