National grid collapse: TCN blames line tripping, says will be restore

According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), a partial disruption resulted from grid instability brought on by a string of lines and generator trippings.

Ndidi Mbah, TCN general manager (GM), public relations, said in a statement on Tuesday that the partial disruption occurred at approximately 1:52 p.m.

Ndidi added that although restoration is still underway, data from the National Control Centre (NCC) indicated that the bulk power outage did not impact all of the grid.

In order to promptly restore bulk power supply to the states impacted by the partial disturbance, TCN engineers are already at work, she stated.

“We deeply regret any annoyance this might bring about for our electrical users.

Earlier, a nationwide blackout resulted from the national grid collapsing for the eleventh time in 2024.

The initial collapse was noted on February 4.

On April 15, July 6, August 5, and March 28, the national grid failed once more.

Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu stated on October 17 that the national grid’s recurring system failures are unavoidable because of the antiquated infrastructure.

According to the minister, grid disruptions will persist throughout the nation until the system is completely redesigned.

According to Adelabu, further breakdowns can be avoided by increasing investment in electricity infrastructure.
