Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has restated his unwavering commitment to providing equal and quality education opportunities for every child within the state. According to the governor, the focus of his administration is to remove barriers that prevent school-age children from accessing educational opportunities.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Governor Makinde disclosed this during the launch of a book titled “Defying Expectations: My Story of Perseverance From Conductor to Journalist” authored by Mr. Musliudeen Atanda Adebayo, Oyo State correspondent. The event also marked the 40th birthday celebration of the author and was held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Ibadan.

80,000 Students Return to School Following Fee Elimination

Makinde highlighted the tangible impact of his administration’s education reforms, noting that over 80,000 children who were previously out of school have now resumed their education. This milestone was achieved following the removal of the ₦3,000 school fees, a decision aimed at eliminating the financial burden on families.

This policy aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4, which emphasizes inclusive and equitable quality education for all (source).
