Renowned Nigerian on-air personality and actress Omotunde Adebowale-David, popularly known as Lolo 1, has come forward with a deeply emotional story of sexual assault involving a fellow professional in the media industry.
In a recent episode of the podcast “Say My Piece”, which she co-hosts, Lolo 1 bravely disclosed that she was raped by a male colleague—an experience that left a lasting emotional and psychological impact.
“I’ve rarely talked about this, and even now, I’m not ready to go into full details,” she said during the episode. “When I told my daughter recently, she held my hand and said, ‘Mummy, you’ve been through so much.’ And it hit me how much I’ve kept inside.”
The actress revealed that the assault happened years ago, but the trauma resurfaces whenever she sees the perpetrator, who remains active in the Nigerian broadcasting scene.
“It happened once, and it was someone I worked with. I still see him regularly, and every time I do, I go into this state of panic,” she added. “But speaking out now? People might question why I waited six years—especially now that he’s gaining recognition on TV.”
Lolo 1 emphasized the complex emotional stages survivors of sexual violence often go through—including denial and self-blame. She highlighted how society often fails to support victims, especially when the abuser holds a prominent position.
This revelation by Lolo 1 is part of a broader movement encouraging women in media to speak out and hold perpetrators accountable, regardless of their social or professional status.

Lolo’s courage in sharing her story aligns with the global fight against sexual violence in the media industry. Experts have long emphasized the need for safe reporting channels and strong institutional support to protect victims and bring offenders to justice.
