FG Commences Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Rehabilitation

LAGOS – The Federal Government has officially launched the rehabilitation, reconstruction, and expansion of the Lagos-Ibadan dual carriageway, specifically Section One and the Lagos-Sagamu Phase Two project in Ogun State. This initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda for Infrastructure Development.

Representing President Bola Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun emphasized that the project signifies the administration’s commitment to ensuring road safety, minimizing travel time, fostering economic growth, and constructing durable infrastructure that meets global standards.

The President urged motorists to exercise patience during the construction period and called on contractors to work diligently to complete the project promptly, reinforcing the government’s dedication to infrastructure enhancement and facilitating ease of business.

Key Features of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Expansion Project

Minister of Works, David Umahi, highlighted that the first phase of the Lagos-Sagamu route has been completed. The second phase, now underway, includes the construction of five pedestrian bridges and two flyovers to improve road safety and accessibility.

Umahi expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for prioritizing the completion of inherited infrastructure projects across Nigeria. He also acknowledged Governor Abiodun’s dedication to infrastructure development in Ogun State and the broader South West region. The minister reiterated the administration’s commitment to upgrading, reconstructing, and finalizing major road networks under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, Akin Alabi, described the project’s launch as a transformative step that would significantly benefit Nigerians by improving mobility and fostering economic development.

Call for Enhanced Traffic Management

The Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo Land, Babatunde Ajayi, urged the Federal Government to install an overpass or speed bumps on the Sagamu and Ilisan-Ilabo routes. This measure, he explained, would improve traffic control and help prevent accidents caused by excessive speeding in these areas.

Among them were Lagos Controller of Works, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, and her Ogun State counterpart, Mrs. Forosola Oloyede, alongside other key stakeholders
