Supreme Court Judgment on Labour Party Leadership Crisis
Despite the recent Supreme Court ruling on the Labour Party (LP) leadership dispute, Julius Abure has asserted that he remains the party’s National Chairman.
Shortly after the apex court’s verdict on Friday, Abure took to his official X handle (formerly Twitter) to declare:
“Barr Julius Abure still remains the National Chairman of Labour Party.”
This statement comes in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the earlier Court of Appeal ruling in Abuja, which had recognized Abure as the LP National Chairman.
Supreme Court’s Verdict and Its Implications
According to LMSINT MEDIA, the Supreme Court, in a ruling delivered by a five-member panel, stated that the Court of Appeal lacked the jurisdiction to declare Abure as the party’s chairman. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, along with another petitioner, had their appeal upheld by the apex court, which ruled in their favor. The ruling was deemed meritorious, affirming the caretaker committee’s legal standing.
