Iran Urges Realism From U.S. In Nuclear Talks To Secure Agreement

A Second Chance for Diplomacy

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, has voiced optimism about achieving a new nuclear agreement with the United States, emphasizing that a successful deal is only possible if Washington adopts a realistic stance during the negotiations.

Iran’s Conditions for Progress in Nuclear Talks

In a press conference held in Moscow alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Araqchi reiterated Iran’s readiness to reach a mutual understanding. He stated:

“If the United States approaches these talks with genuine intent and avoids making unrealistic demands, an agreement is within reach.”

This statement was made ahead of the second round of nuclear discussions, scheduled to take place in Rome, under the mediation of Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi.

U.S. Approach Raises Questions

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei added that while initial talks in Oman showed signs of U.S. seriousness, recent mixed signals from American officials have raised serious concerns about Washington’s intentions.

“Due to contradictory statements from various U.S. officials, we urge them to clarify their position and address the uncertainties surrounding their true motives,” said Baghaei.

Iran’s Concessions and Demands

Last week, Iran expressed willingness to place certain limits on its uranium enrichment program, a significant move toward compromise. However, Tehran has insisted on receiving binding guarantees that the United States, especially under the Trump administration, will not withdraw from the deal again, as happened in 2018.

This follows President Donald Trump’s threats to take aggressive action against Iran unless a new agreement is reached. Iran maintains that its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes, despite Western concerns that they might be aimed at developing nuclear weapons.

A Window of Opportunity

The current nuclear negotiations could mark a critical turning point in U.S.–Iran relations. However, Iran has made it clear that any path forward requires a sincere and consistent approach from Washington.

If the U.S. shows realism and clarity, a long-term diplomatic solution could still be on the table — one that promotes regional stability and mutual respect.
