This move aims to enhance security and curb criminal activities across the state. Additionally, the movement of motorcycles within Owerri metropolis remains prohibited, with strict measures in place to ensure compliance. Why the Ban Is Necessary According to DSP Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, the indiscriminate use of tinted windows, particularly on shuttle buses, and the increasing number of vehicles with covered license plates have raised security concerns. These actions violate existing regulations, prompting the police to reinforce the ban. “The restriction on motorcycles in Owerri city is still effective, and all riders are expected to comply for safety reasons,” Okoye stated. Strict Enforcement & Consequences for Violators To ensure full compliance, traffic officers, divisional police officers, and area commanders have been instructed to enforce the regulations. Offenders risk having their vehicles impounded, with further legal actions taken against them. Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has urged all vehicle owners, commercial drivers, and motorcycle operators to abide by these rules for the safety of Imo State residents.
