New Terrorist Group 'Mahmuda' Reportedly Occupies Kwara And Niger States: Emir Of Yashikira Raises Alarm

The Emir of Yashikira, His Royal Highness Umoru Seriki, has voiced grave concerns over what he describes as persistent and escalating threats posed by a new terror group known as Mahmuda, reportedly infiltrating regions within Kwara North Senatorial District and neighboring Niger State.

In an exclusive conversation with LMSINT Media, the traditional ruler from Baruten Local Government Area expressed disappointment in the government’s lack of urgency and presence in the embattled communities.

“We feel completely neglected. Despite several reports, authorities continue to deny the presence of terrorists. We are forced to protect ourselves,” the Emir stated.

According to Seriki, repeated assaults have been recorded in Baruten and Kaiama LGAs of Kwara, as well as the Borgu region of Niger State. He confirmed that just last week, the community’s vigilante security vehicle—sponsored by local residents—was bombed in an attack attributed to Mahmuda fighters.

“Thankfully, our vigilante members survived the explosion, although some sustained minor injuries. While we did suffer casualties, social media reports of 15 deaths are exaggerated,” the Emir clarified.

Despite multiple appeals and warnings, local residents remain vulnerable, relying heavily on self-defense mechanisms.

Police Response Contradicts Local Reports

The Kwara State Police Command has countered the Emir’s statements, insisting there is no verifiable proof of the Mahmuda terrorist group operating in the affected areas.

In a public statement issued by SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command revealed that ongoing intelligence efforts, threat evaluations, and field reconnaissance have not identified any coordinated terrorist movement in Baruten or Kaiama LGAs.

“The claim about 15 vigilantes being killed is unfounded. No credible reports or evidence support that narrative,” said the police spokesperson.

The Police emphasized their multi-agency security strategy, which integrates the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilante units, and community heads to maintain control and discourage the spread of misinformation.

They further urged citizens and the media to avoid unverified reports that may escalate tension or create panic, especially around volatile border regions near Kainji Lake National Park.

“Our surveillance across border communities remains intact, and we encourage citizens to report any suspicious behavior promptly,” the command added.

Security Tensions Grow in Border Communities

While conflicting reports persist, the situation in Kwara North and adjoining Niger territories raises alarms about growing security vacuums in rural Nigeria. Residents are urging both federal and state authorities to intervene proactively before the crisis escalates.
