CISLAC Condemns Magaji’s Arrest, Urges IGP To Resist Political Influence

CISLAC condemns the arrest of Kano PCACC Chairman Muhuyi Magaji, calling on the IGP to resist political manipulation and uphold Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has strongly criticized the recent arrest and subsequent release of Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC). The arrest, carried out by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit, has raised serious concerns about political interference in Nigeria’s fight against corruption.

In a statement, CISLAC described the arrest as a glaring example of “corruption fighting back,” warning that such actions threaten to derail Nigeria’s collective anti-corruption efforts and weaken public trust in state institutions.

Arrest Allegedly Linked to High-Profile Investigation

According to CISLAC’s Executive Director, Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, the circumstances surrounding Rimingado’s arrest point to political manipulation. He noted that the arrest appears connected to PCACC’s ongoing investigation into properties allegedly linked to a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reports indicate that Rimingado was detained on Friday evening over the seizure of assets suspected to be proceeds of crime. Although he was released on bail the same night, Rimingado was instructed to report to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further questioning on Monday.

Call for Police Neutrality

Rafsanjani urged the Inspector General of Police to ensure the integrity of his office remains intact by resisting political interference. He emphasized, “The Inspector General of Police must not allow his office to be used by desperate politicians to undermine anti-corruption efforts or shield powerful individuals from legitimate investigations.”

The CISLAC leader expressed concerns that such politically motivated actions not only damage the credibility of Nigeria’s anti-corruption institutions but also erode public confidence in law enforcement. He warned that this undermines the global perception of Nigeria and could deter international investors.

Upholding Nigeria’s Anti-Corruption Framework

CISLAC reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability while calling on law enforcement agencies to resist undue political pressure. Rafsanjani further stated that such interference jeopardizes President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s pledge to uphold good governance, transparency, and accountability.

The organization urged the Inspector General of Police and all relevant authorities to uphold the rule of law, ensuring that justice prevails and that Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework remains strong and effective.
