Senator Ali Ndume, who represents the Borno South Senatorial District, has raised a serious concern about the deteriorating security situation in Borno State, Nigeria. Speaking during a recent appearance on Politics Today, a live political program aired by Channels Television, Ndume revealed that Boko Haram insurgents have taken control of three communities in the region.
According to him, the towns of Gudumbali in Guzamala Local Government Area, Marte, and Abadam have effectively fallen under the authority of the terrorist group, with no presence of civil government or Nigerian military control in these areas.
“What we are saying is that there is no civil authority there, and the authority is Boko Haram,” Senator Ndume declared during the interview.
Security Breakdown in Northeast Nigeria
Senator Ndume, a long-serving lawmaker in the Nigerian Senate with over 16 years of experience, expressed grave concerns over the rising insecurity in the Northeast. He emphasized that Nigerian security agencies are not adequately equipped to counter the insurgency effectively.
This revelation aligns with recent remarks made by Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, who also expressed his frustration at the worsening security and daily attacks in the region. In a recent public address, Governor Zulum said:
“It is unfortunate that the renewed Boko Haram attacks and kidnappings in many communities almost on a daily basis without confrontation signalled that Borno State is losing ground.”

Over 250 Terrorist Attacks Since November – A Shocking Statistic
Senator Ndume further revealed alarming statistics, stating that over 250 attacks have occurred in Borno State since November of last year. These attacks have resulted in the tragic loss of over 100 Nigerian soldiers and nearly 300 civilians. However, he also noted that the Nigerian military had managed to neutralize about 800 Boko Haram fighters in the same timeframe.
Despite these efforts, the frequency and boldness of the attacks show that Boko Haram remains a significant threat in the region.
“Somebody is saying we should ignore the governor? That’s unacceptable. We’ve lost more than 100 soldiers,” Ndume emphasized.
